A Beginner’s Guide to Carbon Literacy

A Beginner’s Guide to Carbon Literacy is an informed approach to helping individuals and teams make small or large changes to reduce your carbon footprint.

The average person in the UK currently emits 15 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) a year. Most of us are not really aware of the majority of those emissions, for example the 50g of CO2 emissions for every email with an attachment that you send, or the 3.3kg of CO2 emissions for each laundry load washed at 60° and tumble-dried. You might not be aware that, if you leave your TV on standby for a year, it produces 15kg of CO2, or that 1kg of tomatoes on the vine, out of season, and grown in hothouses emits a whopping 50kg. Yes, 50kg of CO2 emissions for 1kg of tomatoes!

The workshops comprises a short and interactive introduction to the science of climate change, including carbon emissions, carbon sinks, carbon capture and storage and the greenhouse effect. Participants will then engage in an activity to get you thinking about your own carbon footprint and potential actions for change.

What we will cover:

  • The Problem
  • The Science
  • The Solution

What you will learn:

  • The fundamentals of the science of climate change
  • How to measure your carbon footprint
  • How to make a positive change

Join us to become more carbon literate and make the changes that you choose to make to help create a healthier, happier planet.

No judgement, no pressure, just empowerment.
